Green Hop Harvest 2023
Sep 26, 2023
Yesterday we headed down to the Kent-based Hukins Hops for our third and final fresh hop collection of this year’s harvest. It’s a wonderful experience to not only have the opportunity to brew with ingredients from such a highly-regarded and award-winning British hop farm, but also have the access to experience and capture the harvest and processing stages.
We left Hackney just after 8am and the fresh hops were added to the boil at around 1:30pm. Harvested from the bine, transported in the back of our van and added to the brew within a matter of hours, the beers are unique to this time of year, possessing fantastically fresh and aromatic flavours distinct from other releases.
Greg Hobbs, our Director of Brewing, drove the van we were in to the farm. He shared some thoughts as we filled the van with bags of aromatic Kent hops, “The hop harvest is a real highlight in the brewing calendar that celebrates one of the key ingredients in modern brewing. To be able to work with the team at Hukins to use their hops in the purest form fills me with genuine excitement year after year and our Green Hop Festival pays homage to all their hard work on the farm throughout the seasons.”
Our commitment to ingredients and beers that not only proudly highlight provenance, but also the incredible work of our suppliers, is never more distinct than with our single-hop Green Hop releases. This year’s beers will spotlight Bullion, Challenger and UK Cascade varieties.
We can’t wait for you to sample them, and we hope that we can share not only the beers with you, but our passion for these ingredients and collaborative spirit which provides their foundation. All three cask offerings will soon be available at our upcoming Green Hop festivals in both Hackney and Leeds, at The Pembury Tavern and Meanwood Tavern respectively, both of which kick off on Thursday, the 19th of October.
